1 kg equals 2.20462 pounds, so multiply kilograms by 2.20462 to get pounds. A 70 kg person weighs 154.3 lb. Going the other way, divide pounds by 2.20462 to get kilograms : a 150 lb person is 68 kg. For quick mental maths, double the kg and add 10 percent: 70 times 2 is 140, plus 14 is 154.

Strictly speaking, mass (in kg) is how much matter an object contains and stays the same everywhere; weight (in newtons) is the gravitational pull on that mass and changes on the moon. In everyday Indian and metric usage, kg is treated as weight. Scales and shop pricing always use kg as weight without confusion.

1 tola equals 11.6638 grams, approximately 11.66 g. It is still widely used in Indian gold trading : a 10-tola bar is 116.6 g. A related unit is the masha (1 tola equals 12 mashas), and 8 tolas equal 1 chhatak. Always check whether a jeweller quotes per gram or per tola before comparing prices.

Kilograms are heavier than pounds : 1 kg is roughly 2.2 lb. So if a parcel is listed as 5 kg or 5 lb, the 5 kg parcel is more than twice as heavy. Airlines often confuse travellers by quoting baggage limits in kg internationally but in lb on US domestic flights.
