Frequently asked questions
▶What is a time interval?
A time interval is the gap between two times. From 9:00 to 11:30 is 2 hours 30 minutes. We find it by subtracting the start time from the end time.
▶How do I use the time interval lab?
Pick a start time and an end time using the sliders. The lab shows both on a number line and tells you the gap in hours and minutes. Try cross-noon times to see how hours work.
▶When do we find time intervals?
Watching a 2 hour 15 minute movie that starts at 6:30 ends at 8:45. A train leaving Delhi at 7:00 and reaching Agra at 10:30 takes 3 hours 30 minutes. These are time intervals.
▶Tip for time gaps
If the minutes do not subtract neatly, borrow 60 minutes from the hours. So 10:15 minus 7:40: borrow 1 hour to make 9:75 minus 7:40, which is 2 hours 35 minutes.
