Fraction Comparer

We compare fractions by looking at the size of each piece. 1/2 is bigger than 1/3 because halves are bigger than thirds. When two fractions have the same bottom number, the one with the bigger top number wins.

Pick two fractions using the sliders. The lab draws each as a coloured bar of the same total length and tells you which is bigger. The bars make the answer easy to see.

If you ate 1/4 of a cake and your friend ate 1/3, your friend ate more. Sharing rotis, ribbons, and even time on the swing often involves comparing fractions.

If the top numbers are the same, the fraction with the smaller bottom number is bigger. So 1/2 is bigger than 1/8. If the bottoms are the same, the bigger top number is bigger.
