Addition with Regrouping

Regrouping, also called carrying, happens when the ones add up to 10 or more. For 27 plus 35, the ones make 12, so you carry 1 ten over to the tens column. The answer is 62.

Pick two two-digit numbers using the sliders. The lab adds them step by step, showing the carry clearly. Watch the little 1 jump up to the tens place when needed.

If you buy a pen for 28 rupees and a notebook for 45 rupees, you add 28 and 45 to find 73 rupees. Adding marks of two tests is the same. Whenever the ones cross 9, you regroup.

Add the ones column first and check if the answer is 10 or more. If yes, write down only the ones digit and carry the tens digit to the next column. Small dots above help you remember the carry.
