Decimals in real life
Without decimals you cannot really shop, weigh things, run a race, or read a thermometer. Let us see where they appear most.
Idea
Money. Rupees and paise: means rupees plus rupees. Coins and notes are designed to give us this naturally , a -paise coin is half a rupee.

Temperature, time, race timing. A high jumper clears m. A sprinter runs m in s. Body temperature is C , the tenths place matters.
When solving real-life decimal problems, always keep units consistent. If two lengths are given as m and cm, convert one to the other before adding: m cm, so total is cm m. (Or: cm m, total m.)
Estimation also helps. If a bill has three items at roughly each, expect a total near . If your decimal arithmetic gives , you know something went wrong.
