Chapter 10: How do I Spend my Day?
When you wake up, the sun is rising. When you sleep, the moon is shining. So much happens in one day! Today we learn about time , morning, afternoon, evening and night.
What we'll do in this chapter
- Name the parts of the day , morning, afternoon, evening, night.
- Talk about what we do at each time.
- Learn the days of the week.
- Tell what happens before and after.
The big idea
A day has many parts. In the morning, the sun rises. We brush our teeth, eat breakfast and go to school.
In the afternoon, the sun is up high. We eat lunch and play.
In the evening, the sun goes down. We come home and have snacks.
At night, the moon comes out. We have dinner, hear a story and go to sleep.
Every day is the same in this way , morning, afternoon, evening, night. But the things we do can change!
We also have seven days in a week:
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday
On most days we go to school. On Sunday we stay home and play!
When we say "I will eat after my bath" we are talking about time. When we say "I brushed my teeth before breakfast", we are talking about time again. Words like before and after help us put things in order.
Let's play!
๐ Sun and Moon Game
Make a big paper sun and a big paper moon. Call out things like "eating dinner" , your friend holds up the moon! Say "going to school" , hold up the sun. Try many things.
๐ My Day Drawing
Fold a paper into 4 boxes. Draw what you do in the morning, afternoon, evening and night. Show your drawing to your family.
๐ Days of the Week Song
Sing: "Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday!" Sing it fast! Sing it slow! Can you say what day comes after Wednesday?
๐ Before or After?
Ask: "Do I eat lunch before or after going to school in the morning?" Take turns asking each other tricky before-and-after questions!
A small story
Riya's grandmother told her a story. "Long ago, there was no clock. People knew it was morning when the cock crowed. They knew it was noon when the sun was right above their head. They knew it was night when the stars came out." Riya looked outside. The sun was setting. "Then it must be evening now, dadi!" Grandmother smiled.
